Simple Keyword Searches
Truncation is a technique to broaden searches when you aren't sure what terms are used. Using an asterisk (*) after the root will bring results for 'bridge' or 'bridges'; 'railroad' or 'railroads'; and 'yearbook' or 'yearbooks'.
Guided Searches
You can look for material in specific collections rather than searching the entire aggregation. For example, on the Guided Search screen, find the Limit Search by Sub-collection dropdown box, select a collection, then press the Search button.

1. Guided search for subcollection: Barns of Winnebago County

On the Guided Search screen, find the Limit Search by Sub-collection dropdown box. Select Barns of Winnebago County and press Search. |
2. Guided search for Postcard (any field) and Milwaukee (any field)

If you are particularly interested in Milwaukee postcards, try this: On the Guided Search screen, type 'milwaukee' into the first box, leave the defaults in the other two boxes in place. Type 'postcard*' on the second search line. Again, leave the defaults in the other two parameters in place. Press Search. |
